Cold War Sigil No. 1

group show
Once Upon an Instant
HTW Berlin - University of Applied Sciences, Berlin
September 2022
Curated by Poppy (neé Ben) Woodeson

I’ve known Woodeson since they presented at Dorkbot NYC in 2003. Their “Tomato Soup Battery” was a huge inspiration to my current body of low voltage electrical circuit artworks. Because the show was in Berlin and I was not attended (same time as the Safety exhibition in Seattle.) Cold War Sigil No. 2 was an identical work that was exhibited at the same time in Safety at Fresh Mochi Gallery.

Woodeson went to great lengths to help construct the work with components I shipped while simultaneously mounting a massive show in another country. I did need locally sourced saltwater to power the circuit and they went to Brighton, England to collect a bottle seawater. From their instagram:

So I am in Brighton.

Next week, I am in Berlin installing
#OnceUponAnInstant the show I have curated for@icccia_org

because, Berlin is nowhere near the sea, I need to take some seawater from Brighton, to Berlin for an artwork by
@megghatron [Trainor]

Do I mind doing this? No.

Did I get rather wet? Yes.

Is the artwork worth it? Oh yeah!

Carry on…
